This is really interesting! Would love to receive one of those Spanish wedding invitations!

It is impressive how Greece and Spain are very alike (also) in the gift aspect. It is your birthday - you take your friends out and they bring you a gift. You go to a wedding - you give money. You go to a baptism - you give money. You go to stag do/hen - the bride/groom does not pay anything.

Interesting, sounds like it might be a Mediterranean thing? In any case, I love how clearly defined it is!

I also have only visited Greece but found it to be an equally social country as Spain! I’ll never forget the owner of the hotel I stayed at in Santorini took my mom and I out to his friend group dinner at a local bar that we would’ve never gone to otherwise. We were out until 2am (my poor mom was exhausted lol)!

I m glad you had such a nice experience, especially in Santorini. It is not uncommon for tourists to be treated like "wallets" in places that are flooded by people. So that guy's gesture counts even more.

I have to say we went in April too so it was before the busy season which made all the difference. There was a palpable excitement on this island because everyone was gearing up for the season. There were tourists but not many. I couldn’t imagine going in summer! Wouldn’t have been the same.
